The Grants Team are thrilled to welcome the announcement of the much anticipated Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program (LGGSP) for 2024-28.  

This funding is a critical opportunity for councils to enhance their regions and deliver essential services and infrastructure. 

The 2024-28 LGGSP aims to support councils to deliver priority infrastructure projects that meet the needs of their communities, create safe, liveable and prosperous regions, and promote long-term council sustainability.

$115 Million for Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program:

Funding is available for water and sewerage, housing, road projects, and more. The new funding guidelines have just been released, with successful projects to be short-listed later this year. The competitive application process includes infrastructure and planning projects.

Funding Details:

  • Delivering priority essential services and infrastructure.
  • Aligning with local, regional, and state priorities and infrastructure planning objectives.
  • Contributing to local and regional economic growth and employment.
  • Improving local disaster resilience and preparedness.
  • Supporting long-term sustainability and project planning.
  • Encouraging collaboration and resource sharing between councils.
  • Improving the liveability and amenity of regional communities.

Eligible Projects Include:

  • Essential services (water supply, sewerage, waste infrastructure, roads, stormwater systems).
  • Community facilities (disaster command centres, telecommunication/data infrastructure).
  • Housing supply and community safety infrastructure.
  • Economic development and tourism infrastructure.
  • Capital maintenance and repairs.
  • Non-capital planning projects (strategic plans, funding studies, business cases).

Important Dates - Stage 1

Applications open for Stage 1 submissions: 12 June 2024
Applications close for Stage 1 submissions: 9 August 2024

In the last funding round of the LGGSP, Peak’s Grants Team worked with councils to achieve a 75% success rate in securing funding for various projects, including significant infrastructure upgrades and community development initiatives, such as:

  • Water Treatment Upgrades Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Council $1,253,160
  • Garrick Street Housing Development Barcoo Shire Council $1,393,505
