As the Sunshine State’s tourism sector continues to warm up, post-COVID, Peak has answered the call from – and is now answering the calls for – beautiful Diamantina Shire.

“Queensland – beautiful one day, perfect the next.” We’ve all heard that slogan to help drive tourism into this state. And it’s just one of many. Remember these?  “Queensland, The Tropical Wonderland” or “Go North for Warmth”. And what about “Join the Q for Queensland”, “Where else but Queensland?”, “Where Australia Shines” and we won’t mention the polarising “Where the Bloody Hell are you?” (national) campaign!

Some things don’t change: the sun still shines, it is still beautiful, it is still a tropical wonderland and now, more than ever, people want to come to Queensland.

But some things do change: international and domestic border closures, quarantine, and lock downs to mention just a few. And these things have had – and continue to have – an impact, to say the least. No more so than for  Queensland’s tourism sector, which traditionally has depended heavily upon transient labour (aka backpackers) in order to ‘man the pumps’ during the peak periods.

Of course, that transient labour supply is simply not available right now and who knows when we will return to normal? (Actually, who knows what normal will even look like? Certainly not me.) What we do know though, is that we have a need in Queensland, right now, in terms of supporting those areas which can no longer call upon and utilise transient labour.

As always, Peak Services listens to its councils and when they tell us they need a solution, we work with them to develop one.

There are ways to reallocate tasks and farm out some of the higher volume, lower risk interactions to a support team equipped with the skills and manpower to help. In turn, this allows councils to better utilise their incumbent workforce to focus on the more complex tasks, no longer hampered by the bulging ‘in tray’, swollen email inbox or that neverending, always ringing, phone.

With some collaborative thinking, the phones, emails, and administration tasks can easily be done by others. It is simple to establish and, once in place, very quickly becomes just another way of doing business.

So, whether it be tourist parks, information centres, campsites or anything that involves customers calling, emailing and writing, we can help you. We are experienced, flexible, and always available.

I could tell you anything of course but why not have a listen to what Stephen from Diamantina Shire Council has to say? It’s a great example of how a council has introduced simple, smart, innovative and, most importantly, effective solutions to problems many of you are experiencing.
